Deqin Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is located in the northwest of Yunnan Province, right on the south-eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and at the centre of the Hengduan mountain range. The Deqin Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture covers a total area of 23,870 km2. It includes Zhongdian, Deqin, Weixi, and some Lisu Minority Autonomous Counties. Deqin lies in the upper reaches of the Yangtze and Mekong Rivers.
There is much to see or to do in Deqin (Diqin). Most noteworthy is Shangri-La, which is depicted as the Eden on teh earth. Three Parallel Rivers(Mekong, Yangtze, and Salween) now form part of a greater scenic area, which covers more than 15 protected spots in the province, and it’s absolutely a must for backpackers.
If you happen to find yourself in the Three Parallel Rivers Park, it’s very important you don’t miss out on the Tiger Leaping Gorge. It runs for more than 10 kilometers and is composed of three sections, with different water temperaments.
